Racial Discrimination in Saudi Arabia

The arrogance and culture of racial discrimination prevalent in Saudi Arabia today is contrary to the tenets of Islam. Saudis feel superior to other nationalities who they look down upon, despise and abuse. It is inherent in them to abuse and treat non-Saudis unkindly and with great contempt. Telling lies and being dishonest is their second nature. Never to fulfil their contract, pledges and promises is also their second nature. This is witnessed by every Muslim that goes for Umra and Hajj.

An Asian person born, bred and resident in Madina Munawwara, said that he believed that Saudis were the most arrogant nation who looked down upon non-Saudis and non-Arabs with contempt. Far from considering them as their fellow Muslim brothers, Saudis did not even consider them as humans beings.

They treat Asian people who work for them as slaves. (See the videos on "Abuse of Domestic Workers in Saudi Arabia"). When abuses are reported to Police or authorities, no action is taken against Saudis because even the Police are racialists and stick up for fellow Saudis. There are no laws to protect the rights and dignity of non-Saudis. But there are certainly laws prohibitting Saudi women from marrying non-Saudis - even if they are Muslims. There are laws prohibitting non-Saudis to own property. There are laws of the "Kafala" (Sponsorship) system - which allows Saudis to exploit, enslave and blackmail foreigners who work for them. Their passports are taken away from them and they can not go anywhere without first getting permission from their "sponsors". They are paid very low wages or never paid at all. This is absolutely appaling and totally against the teachings of Islam. This is indeed a great disgrace to Islam.

The Prophet (PBUH) said:
  • "Your brethren are your servants whom Allâh has made your subordinate. So, the man who has his brother as his subordinate, should give him to eat from what he himself eats, and to wear what he himself wears. And do not put on them the burden of any labor which may exhaust them. And if you have to put any such burden on them, then help them yourselves (in this work)."
  • "Pay his wages to the worker before his sweat gets dried."
  • ‘Show mercy to those on earth so that He who is in heaven will have mercy on you.’
  • The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also said that there are three people who will find him on the Day of Judgement as their enemy. One of these three is: "The man who employs a worker on wages, then takes the full measure of work from him, but does not pay him his wages."
In Islam there is no discrimination on the basis of colour, race or lineage. All human beings come from Adam and Eve. In Islam, differentiation between people is based on piety (taqwaa). Allah Almighty Said in the Noble Quran:

  • “O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqoon (the pious)]. Verily, Allaah is All-Knowing, All Aware” [al-Hujuraat 49:13]
  • “Whoever works righteousness - whether male or female - while he (or she) is a true believer verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)” [al-Nahl 16:97]
Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) said in his last Sermon on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H.(632 CE) in the ‘Uranah valley of Mount Arafat’ (in Mecca).
  • "All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.of righteousness after I am gone."
